Local Press: High Marks For UAE On Child Welfare

The UAE leadership leaves no stone unturned when it comes to protection of the rights of children, ensuring a healthy, safe and supportive environment for children and enhancing their awareness about their rights and responsibilities within the family, society and at the national level, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 23rd Oct, 2018) The UAE leadership leaves no stone unturned when it comes to protection of the rights of children, ensuring a healthy, safe and supportive environment for children and enhancing their awareness about their rights and responsibilities within the family, society and at the national level, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.

The editorial, in today's edition of The Gulf Today, added, "The idea has always been to instill among children the values of tolerance, respect for pluralism and solidarity, thus preparing a happy generation."

Following the instructions of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood is preparing a national strategy for UAE mothers, children and youth, in cooperation with its strategic partners.

"The preparation of the strategy indicates the leadership’s continuous efforts encouraging the contributions of mothers, children, youth and children of determination in building the society and empowering them in all sectors," the paper said.

It added, "The UAE’s first celebration in March of 'Emirati Children’s Day' was another attempt to raise the community’s awareness about children’s rights as stipulated by the Wadima Law. These are rights related to the provision of a safe and stable life, where the Wadima Law is an important milestone in the protection of the rights of the child.

"The UAE well recognises the fact that building a better future for children starts in the classroom and e-learning can bridge the knowledge gap in the Arab world."

Just last week, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, launched 'Madrasa', the largest free e-learning platform in the Arab world, the paper stated.

"The platform offers 5,000 Arabic educational videos on subjects including science and mathematics and targets all levels of school students from kindergarten to grade 12. The project provides educational materials in Arabic online at no charge to as many as 50 million Arab students around the world."

"The Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi’s decision to establish the 'Child Safety Department' is another major initiative that will go a long way in ensuring the wellbeing of children," it added.

The Sharjah-based daily concluded by saying that the decision to transform the existing 'Child Safety Campaign' - an initiative of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SCFA, in Sharjah - into a department under the SCFA, "will undoubtedly help ensure family stability and security, besides focusing on children’s physical and psychological well-being."
