Local Press: UAE doing its best to help Yemeni people

The UAE has once again ranked as the largest donor of emergency humanitarian assistance to Yemen in the world for 2018 and that reflects its genuine concern for the people of the brotherly nation, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 04th Oct, 2018) The UAE has once again ranked as the largest donor of emergency humanitarian assistance to Yemen in the world for 2018 and that reflects its genuine concern for the people of the brotherly nation, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.

The editorial, in today's edition of The Gulf Today, added, "Through its humanitarian activities, the UAE has well proved its keenness to support the Yemeni people and ensure that they have a dignified life."

According to the Financial Tracking Service (FTS), a centralised source of information on humanitarian funding flows, the UAE is also the second-largest source supporting the 2018 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan, (YHRP), following the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The latest FTS figures show that since the beginning of 2018 and up to 1st October 2018, the UAE has provided as much as AED4.56 billion in aid to Yemen, including AED1.71 billion to the YHRP, and AED815.8 million as direct humanitarian assistance.

The UAE has also been in the forefront among countries that provided immediate assistance to fight the outbreak of cholera in various Yemeni provinces in collaboration with the World Health Organisation.

"The continuous humanitarian support extended by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has been capturing the hearts of Yemeni people," added the editorial comment, noting that the ERC has launched several reconstruction projects and initiated academic and development schemes in many liberated governorates, besides social, economic and commercial projects that have financially benefited families of martyrs and people with special needs.

"It should not be forgotten that the ERC was the first relief organisation to be present in Yemen, especially in Aden, after its liberation," the paper explained.

Just last week, Dr. Al Hassan Al Taher, Governor of Hodeidah, showered praise on the UAE for its humanitarian and developmental role in Yemen, especially in the liberated directorates of the Red Sea Coast and its support of the education sector in Yemen.

Dr. Al Taher pointed out that the ERC has been making unremitting efforts to overcome difficulties to help students continue their education and provide all facilities to improve the learning environment.

Despite adverse conditions, ERC teams have been managing to ensure the swift and necessary delivery of aid to Yemen’s citizens. The teams have been distributing food aid to underprivileged persons and families even in remote areas.

The UAE’s keenness to reduce the suffering of the Yemenis is in compliance with the nation’s desire to establish growth, security and stability in Yemen.

"By repeatedly attempting to escalate the crisis, the Iran-backed Houthi militias are playing with fire. They are bound to fail," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
