Ministry of Economy discusses economic, commercial cooperation with US delegation

The Ministry of Economy discussed the means of developing the economic relations between the UAE and the United States, US, as well as their overall cooperation, especially in the area of standards and metrology and their commercial application

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 19th Mar, 2019) The Ministry of Economy discussed the means of developing the economic relations between the UAE and the United States, US, as well as their overall cooperation, especially in the area of standards and metrology and their commercial application.

The discussion took place during a meeting, in the ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, between Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Foreign Trade Sector of the Ministry of Economy, and a US commercial mission organised by the American National Standards Institute, ANSI, with the attendance of Badr Al Mashrakh, Director of the Commercial Policies and International Organisations Department.

Al Kait explained that the cooperation between the two countries in the area of standards and metrology will facilitate commercial exchange and create investment partnerships while noting that the UAE is keen to adopt the best international standards.

He also highlighted the importance of enhancing their cooperation in digital and electronic trade and related standards and legislation, which will serve both countries, strengthen the digital economy, and create international partnerships.

During the meeting, Al Mashrakh discussed the national economy, the country’s economic agenda based on the UAE Vision 2021, the country’s efforts to create a diverse internationally-competitive economy based on knowledge and innovation, and future long-term development initiatives as specified by the UAE Centennial 2071.

The US mission stressed that their country has adopted multiple categories and classifications related to global standards and advanced standardisation technologies while highlighting their efforts to enhance their cooperation and exchange relevant expertise with the UAE, as well as to discuss opportunities for harmonising relevant standards, especially commercial standards, which will promote trade and enable Emirati and US companies to benefit from mutual commercial and investment opportunities and partnerships.

The delegation included representatives of the International Trade Administration of the US Department of Commerce, the American National Standards Institute, the American Petroleum Institute, the American Association of Mechanical Engineers, the Eaton Company, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, the International Code Council, and the National Association of Electrical Manufacturers Association, Underwriters laboratories.

This visit aims to acquaint American companies with the future visions of various UAE authorities and exchange views about the available opportunities for partnerships and cooperation.
