ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 10th Feb, 2019) The News Agencies Tolerance Charter, which was signed by the Emirates News Agency, WAM, and 25 other international news agencies on the sidelines of the first day of the World Government Summit in Dubai, is an initiative that aims to promote the role of the media in spreading the values of tolerance and coexistence around the world.
The charter also aims to highlight the key local and international role the Emirati media plays in promoting tolerance.
Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, Executive Director of the Emirates News Agency, WAM, stated that the signing of the charter is in line with the UAE’s efforts to establish tolerance as a means of coexistence between different races, ethnicities and religions.
He added that the signing is important, as it coincides with the launch of the 7th World Government Summit in Dubai, pointing out that it is part of the strategy of the National Media Council, NMC, to achieve the UAE Vision 2021.
He also noted that the charter will help promote tolerance across the region.
Several directors and representatives of the international news agencies that signed the charter stressed that it will establish a clear roadmap for activating the role of the media in spreading tolerance and promoting coexistence and dialogue, while praising WAM’s efforts to promote cooperation and coordination between the international media to serve humanitarian causes.
The agencies also agreed to exchange written news, images, video clips and other materials on the subject of tolerance and to promote related media content, as well as highlight international successes in strengthening this value to serve humanity and the role of the youth in building tolerant communities, participating in the decision-making process, and creating plans for the future.
