ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 24th Apr, 2019) The National Media Council, NMC, is participating in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2019 through an interactive pavilion defining its significant role in the national publishing sector, as well as its efforts to improve media content and support Emirati writers.
The fair is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on April 24th -30th April.
This participation aims to highlight the NMC's role in the publishing sector, its support to the national publishing industry and Emirati writers, and its objective to preserve the national identity and cultural heritage of the UAE. The Council also seeks to identify the best international publishing models and practices at the exhibition, and explore ways to improve the quality of services provided by NMC to the sector.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the NMC, hailed the international significance of the event, which, he said, bears witness to the country’s steadily growing cultural progress thanks to the prudent vision of the UAE’s leadership.
He added that Sheikh Mohamed’s patronage of the event is fundamental to ensuring its success in delivering its message.
Al Jaber highlighted the positive impact of literature and culture on human development, noting that the success of world nations is measured by cognitive skills and knowledge capital.
"The UAE is, therefore, keen to implement national strategies and programmes aimed at promoting the importance of books and content development, and encouraging citizens to read and learn about other cultures," he added.
"The event provides a platform for Emirati writers, intellectuals and publishers to promote quintessential Emirati values, principles and humanitarian message of tolerance and acceptance."
The minister pointed out that India’s selection as the Fair’s guest of honour reflects the Asian country's robust and longstanding relations with the UAE.
He re-affirmed the NMC’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s publishing sector and enabling it to keep pace with national developments, through launching programmes, initiatives and partnerships, including a forum titled "Enriching the Content of Tolerance " to improve national media content and encourage Emirati writers and authors to write about the country’s identity and cultural heritage.
The NMC will be holding a number of events and workshops during the event, including: "How to publish a book?" aimed at familiarising visitors with the ideal way to publish their cultural productions. Another workshop titled "How to establish a publishing house?" will be held over two days.
NMC is set to participate in an interactive display that will feature many activities that promote the publishing sector, and highlight the country's progress across all fields.
Emirates news Agency (WAM) is also providing media support to the participating entities, shedding light on national success stories in the publishing industry locally and internationally.
