(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 20th Apr, 2019) SHARJAH, 20th April, 2019 (WAM) – Children as young as seven, are being made aware of the environment and being introduced to green systems through workshops by India-based start-up, Solar Desk, at the ongoing Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, SCRF 2019.
Monal Kabra, founder of Solar Desk, is teaching young visitors to SCRF 2019 how to power fans and cars with solar energy. Her approach is straightforward – basic DIY kits based on the application of simple STEM concepts are distributed to participants at the workshop, who assemble all the components of their prototype gadgets using only a screwdriver.
In the process, Kabra is encouraging her students to practically apply their school learnings, build confidence and offering them a platform to think in progressively and innovatively.
"I have always been very passionate about educating young children in the field of renewable energy. So, after working for the solar energy arm of an Indian corporation, I started Solar Desk in 2015. We make child-friendly circuits so the technology behind environmental engineering doesn’t come across as jargon to them."
"The way solar energy is picking up, in the next ten years, these children will be experiencing solar technologies more than any generation before them. So, it is very important for them to understand the scientific and environmental rationale behind harnessing renewable energy sources."
