DUBAI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 13th Nov, 2018) To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the DP World Tour Championship, DP World and the European Tour hosted an evening with Ryder Cup Legends Ian Poulter and Thomas Bjorn, to discuss the future of golf, both globally and across the UAE. They were joined by Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO & MD, DP World UAE, Daniel Van Otterdijk, SVP Group Communications, DP World and Keith Pelley, CEO, European Tour.

The panel discussion, moderated by Sky Sports presenter Sarah Stirk aboard the stunning QE2, provided a platform for guests to learn about the work of the global trade enabler in moving cargo across its 78 locations in 40 countries, the evolution of professional golf and insights into how the sport has met the challenges of the modern world by embracing innovation to meet the needs of its changing audience.

Ian Poulter, who is widely credited with inspiring a younger generation of European players to take up the game said: "I believe that innovation is essential in helping to bring golf to new audiences. New technology, new formats and new thinking is critical to opening up the sport to a younger, more diverse type of player."

He continued: "Getting into the professional game was very different when I broke through in 2000. Golf is definitely changing and it’s changing for the better".

"Everyone at the European Tour is committed to innovation and attracting new audiences to golf, whilst at the same time respecting and honouring the game’s unique history and heritage," said Keith Pelley, European Tour CEO.

"Part of that success comes with bringing the Tour to new markets and doing this with a local partner that will help create a legacy after a tournament leaves town."

He added: "DP World and the Emirates Golf Federation has been instrumental in opening up the game across the UAE and providing opportunities for both nationals and expats living here."

Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO & MD, DP World UAE said: "We are delighted to have been a partner of the European Tour for ten years and in that time, we have achieved a lot together. Hosting the DP World Tour Championship not only provides the local community with an amazing sporting spectacle, but also raises awareness of what we do as a business delivering goods and products to locations across the globe and keeping the world moving."

He added: "Since bringing the European Tour to Dubai we have seen amazing growth; growth in the number of fans coming to the event, growth in sports tourism, growth in the number of Emirati children taking up the game and growth in our business across six continents adding value to lives everywhere. This is something we are extremely proud of."

The top 60 players in the European Tour will battle it out for the DP World Tour Championship title from 15th – 18th November at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
