ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 19th Aug, 2018) Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) has developed an integrated action plan for Eid al-Adha 2018 as part of its efforts to ensure the cleanliness of Abu Dhabi and preserve its aesthetic appeal.
Covering all key areas of the emirate, the plan includes the cleaning of the interiors and exteriors of all mosques that will hold Eid prayers, deploying additional cleaners at prayer grounds, markets, parks and other public places, and handling slaughterhouse waste in a safe, hygienic and environmentally-responsible manner.
Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Acting General Manager of Tadweer, said: "As Eid al-Adha is one of the most important religious occasions for Muslims, Tadweer has finalised this action plan well ahead of the holiday to ensure the timely clean-up of areas frequented by large numbers of people. As part of the plan, we will provide a host of targeted support services to ensure that Eid Al Adha rituals are performed in compliance with the relevant rules and regulations."
He also revealed that nearly 12,000 tonnes of solid municipal waste and slaughterhouse waste were collected from across Abu Dhabi during Eid al-Adha 2017, at an average of 4,000 tons per day, representing an increase of 26 percent over regular days due to a surge in sacrificial slaughter activities.
Dr. Al Kaabi added, "During Eid al-Adha holidays, we step up the deployment of cleaners and put our emergency teams on high alert.
We also expand our services related to sacrificial slaughter to prevent waste pile-up at abattoirs, and guarantee a hygienic and pollution-free slaughter process that conforms to the highest health, safety and environmental standards."
In addition, he urged citizens and residents to maintain the cleanliness of slaughterhouses and related facilities, and refrain from slaughtering sacrificial animals at homes and non-designated areas to ensure public safety, and avoid the spread of diseases and odors.
During Eid al-Adha 2018, Tadweer will deploy a 4,000-strong workforce on two round-the-clock shifts, with 600 cleaners to cover Abu Dhabi city alone. Working overtime in accordance with relevant labour laws, the cleaners will sweep and pick up waste from public places, and provide uninterrupted cleaning services across 34 Eid prayer grounds. Furthermore, 35 workers will carry out daily cleaning at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Tadweer will also allocate 12 additional cleaning equipment units to slaughterhouses and 32 units for street cleaning and waste collection, as well as seven automatic sweeping machines. To facilitate prompt and efficient waste disposal at slaughterhouses, the center will supply 27 additional waste bins and increase the number of cleaners employed there.
