Telecommunications Regulatory Authority receives delegates from UK, Poland and Ukraine

Majed Al Mesmar, Deputy Director-General of the Telecommunications sector at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, has received delegates from the United Kingdom on the sidelines of the International Telecommunication Union’s, ITU, Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 (PP-18), which is running until 16th November at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

DUBAI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 05th Nov, 2018) Majed Al Mesmar, Deputy Director-General of the Telecommunications sector at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, has received delegates from the United Kingdom on the sidelines of the International Telecommunication Union’s, ITU, Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 (PP-18), which is running until 16th November at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

During the meeting, Al Mesmar discussed the critical issues in information and communications technology that were raised during the Conference, including infrastructure, competition, regulation, best practices and innovation, as well as ways of promoting mutual cooperation in the field.

Al Mesmar, who is also the Chairman of the Conference, said, "The UAE is committed to working with the International Telecommunications Union and its members to expedite the use of information and communications technology in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as set out by the United Nations."

"We are sparing no efforts to ensure the success of this highly important telecom event. We hope this Conference leads to decisions that contribute to the development of the sector globally and reinforces the role of the telecom sector in serving different economic sectors," he added.

The delegation, including Tariq Ahmed, Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and Lord Henry Ashton, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport from the UK, also shared their views and suggestions on how cooperation in the technical field can be fortified between the two countries.

In a separate meeting, Al Mesmar also received Karol Okonski, Secretary of State of the Digital Affairs of Poland, and explored proposals that will be presented during the Conference and the possible outcomes and recommendations.

Talking about the role of International Telecommunication Union in achieving the SDGs, Al Mesmar highlighted the enormous potential of information and communications technology in the context of e-learning and e-health, e- agriculture, big data, over-the-top media services, artificial intelligence and the important part that the Union plays in their advancement.

Al Mesmar also received at his office Leonid Yevdochenko, Chairman of the board of Directors of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of the Ukraine, where the two exchanged views on the most important issues arising at the Conference.

The Conference's Chairman underlined the UAE's keenness on boosting cooperation with the Ukraine, and welcomed future proposals and meetings to strengthen that cooperation.
