UAE, Egypt accelerating academic, research, knowledge cooperation

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted the growing relations between the UAE and Egypt, especially in the fields of education, research and knowledge

CAIRO, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 17th Jan, 2019) Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted the growing relations between the UAE and Egypt, especially in the fields of education, research and knowledge.

He made the statements while receiving Jamal bin Huwaireb. CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and his delegation, who included Seham AlFalahi, Head of the Literacy 2030 Challenge, and Salem Al Owais, Head of the Dubai International Programme for Writing.

At the start of the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar presented a report on Egypt’s newly launched academic and research projects, as well as the international rankings of Egyptian universities and the number of Egyptian scientific publications while noting that many legislation have been issued to advance and develop Egypt’s higher education and scientific research system, including the establishment of the "Foreign Universities Branches Law."

Both sides discussed the cooperation between the UAE and Egypt in several areas, such as supporting new universities and developing technical and vocational education.

They also discussed the participation of Egypt in the project, and how university students can help eliminate illiteracy in the Arab region, by providing them with the necessary training and honouring distinguished students, as well as by promoting creative writing among Egyptian school and universities students, through the programme’s "My Story Initiative" and the "Bel Arabi Initiative," which aim to promote the Arabic language through social media.

Abdel Ghaffar noted the possible cooperation between the My Story Initiative and the Egyptian Innovation Bank in gathering innovative ideas, as well as the cooperation between the Bel Arabi Initiative and the "Egyptian Centre for Teaching the Arabic Language to Non-Arabic Speakers."

Jamal bin Huwaireb praised the key international role of Egypt, which has distinguished scholars of various scientific specialisations.

At the end of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of mutually benefitting from their material and human resources, to advance higher education, science, technology and knowledge.
