UAE Parliamentary Division concludes participation in parliamentary seminar on current situation in Arab region

CAIRO, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 16th Sep, 2018) The Federal National Council, FNC, Parliamentary Division concluded its participation in a parliamentary seminar on the current situation in the Arab region, which was organised by the Arab Parliamentary Union and hosted by the Egyptian Parliament in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on 15th and 16th September 2018.

The FNC Parliamentary Division urged Arab parliaments to issue legislation to support coexistence and community coherence, reinforce the idea of citizenship, criminalise terrorist acts, eliminate sources of terrorist financing, and combat terrorism and extremist views, as well as respect individual rights, democracy and human rights.

The division highlighted that the fact that parliamentarians have a vital role in combatting terrorism and extremism, building strategic partnerships to eliminate extremism and promoting cooperation and tolerance around the world.

The division, which included Khalfan Abdullah bin Youkhah, Ahmed Yousef Al Nuaimi and Salem Abdullah Al Shamsi, stressed the importance of promoting intellectual and psychological protection through drafting academic plans and strategies that promote coexistence and community coherence and combat terrorist and extremist ideas, while calling for tolerance and mercy and rejecting hatred and violence, as well as promoting the true meaning of islam and strengthening critical thinking skills, to counter the lies of terrorist groups.

During the seminar’s third work session, entitled, "Combatting Extremist Ideas Through education, Culture and the Rule of Law," the division affirmed that the UAE is committed to promoting the values of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and respect for others, and is a model of these values, as it hosts over 200 different nationalities.
