UAE Press: Well-deserved accolades for Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 23rd Sep, 2018) The selection of the UAE capital as the safest city in the world for the second year by Numbeo, a website that curates and collates data to develop the world’s largest user-contributed database about cities and countries worldwide, is a well-deserved commendation for the Emirate, an editorial in a local English language daily has said.

The editorial, in today's edition of The Gulf Today, added, "It is a great source of pride for the residents that surpassing more than 300 cities across the world, including Tokyo, Basel, Munich, and Vienna, the UAE’s capital has once again topped the list as the most secure city in the world.

"It should be noted that the Emirate’s safety index has risen from 86.46 points for the first half of last year to 88.26 points during the first six months of this year."

The paper quoted Saif Saeed Ghobash, Under-Secretary at the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, as saying, "Safety is paramount when choosing a city to visit or live and work in. Our capital’s strong reputation for safety and a virtually crime-free society is a testament to the ongoing efforts to establish the Emirate as a destination of distinction with international standards of safety."

Abu Dhabi has been witnessing rapid growth and development on its journey to become a world-class tourism destination and several positive factors reflect that reality.

The Abu Dhabi International Airport was named the winner of "Best Airport in the middle East," for the second year in a row by the Airports Council International at its annual Airport Service Quality Awards recently.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi picked up the award for the "Best Stand in Middle East Region" at ITB Berlin in Germany for its pavilion featuring the best of the emirate’s attractions and hotels.

On the technology front, the recent ranking of Abu Dhabi on top of a list of cities in Africa and the Middle East in the McKinsey Global Institute study "Smart Cities: Digital Solutions for a More Livable Future" is testimony to the fact that the Emirate has not only recognised the tremendous power of technology, but also pressed the "smart" key well ahead of most others.

"The capital’s expanding portfolio of attractions is sure to attract more visitors. A safe place is a happy place and that’s what the capital city offers. The "safest city" tag comes as another good reason for visitors and residents of Abu Dhabi to make the most of the renowned Emirati hospitality," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
