UN Official Hails UAE And Saudi Arabia's Relief Efforts For Thousands Of Yemeni Families

ADEN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 16th Aug, 2018) Deputy Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Ali Reza Qureshi, has hailed the noble humanitarian aid of the UAE and the Saudi Arabia that enabled the programme to provide assistance to 66,000 Yemeni families affected by the cyclone in the island of Socotra.
This came during the inauguration of the WFP campaign today, in Al-Arish area in Aden, under the: "Food Baskets Distribution Project", which aims to reach all the liberated Yemeni governorates, in partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of Saeed Al Kaabi, UAE's Humanitarian Operations Director for Yemen, and the Head of the Supreme Relief Committee of the legitimate Yemeni government, Jamal Balfakih, and a number of Yemeni officials.
Deputy Director of the WFP emphasised that distribution of baskets of foods, in Yemen targeted thousands of Yemeni families that were selected, after identifying their actual needs, through a field team of the organisation, indicating that food baskets will be distributed through different centres, in the liberated neighborhoods and districts.
Qureshi praised the keenness and continued cooperation of Saudi Arabia and the UAE to reach Yemeni families throughout the country to enhance their capacities and support them to face the current humanitarian situation in Yemen due to the current events.
He noted, " Through the humanitarian aid, we have been able to meet the needs of the affected Yemeni families in Hodeidah.
"
He also thanked Saudi Arabia and the UAE for their noble donation, and said that, "Continued cooperation will enable us to provide relief for 18 million Yemenis suffering from food insecurity and more than 8 million Yemenis who are suffering from the same crisis due to the situation in the country. He also stressed that humanitarian aid plays a key role in saving the lives of Yemeni families."
Beneficiaries extended thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE for the generous humanitarian aid which alleviated their suffering.
Al Kaabi emphasised the importance of unifying and coordinating relief efforts among international donors and international humanitarian organisations on the Yemeni arena and the continuous coordination among them to provide support and assistance to the needy and affected people by the current developments and alleviate the humanitarian situation in all Yemeni governorates and cities.
Al-Kaabi praised the humanitarian role played by the international organisations and the WFP in helping the Yemeni people and easing their suffering.
The UAE is working in partnership with the international organisations in the Yemeni governorates, in addition to the continuous and relentless efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent to reach those in need directly, he concluded.
