American Lawmaker SlamsTrump’s Policy Of Separating Children, Parents At US-Mexico Border

NEW YORK, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th May, 2018 ) :An American lawmaker denounced as "evil" President Donald Trump's immigration policy over the Department of Homeland Security's orders to forcibly separate migrant parents from their children at the US-Mexico border.
Congressman Ted Lieu, a Democrat who is one of Trump's most vocal critics in Congress, attacked the policy as "evil," writing in a tweet that it would "shock Jesus." "There are many ways to describe the @realDonaldTrump policy of ripping children away from their parents at the border.
It violates human rights laws. It is unAmerican. It would shock Jesus. But I think the most appropriate way to describe it is this: The policy is evil," Lieu tweeted. Later in the day, Congressman Lieu once again took to Twitter, this time making an appeal to first lady Melania Trump about the issue, saying if she was “going to do anything about it? “Separating toddlers from parents is definitely not a 'Be Best' policy,” Lieu wrote.
“No one can take your 'Be Best' children's agenda seriously when your husband's policy rips kids from their parents and loses track of the children.
" Lieu was referring to a campaign announced by the first lady earlier this month to teach children the importance of social, emotional and physical health.
"I am very excited to announce 'Be Best', an awareness campaign dedicated to the most valuable and fragile among us " our children, Melania said. Meanwhile, Attorney General Jeff Sessions doubled down on the immigration policy earlier this month, saying that the Department of Justice would step up prosecutions of migrant parents in the hopes of deterring future illegal immigration.
"The Attorney General directed the U.S. Attorney's offices to adopt a zero-tolerance policy for all offenses referred for prosecution," a Homeland Security official told The Wall Street Journal.
Last month it was reported that limited budgets had led to the Department of Health and Human Services losing track of nearly 1,500 unaccompanied migrant children last year after they were placed in the homes of adult sponsors, some of whom turned out to be human traffickers, according to an investigation.
