Pakistan only extending moral, diplomatic support to Kashmiris: DG ISPR

LONDON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Oct, 2018 ) :Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Saturday said the indigenous freedom struggle of valiant people of Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) had entered into a decisive phase, who were giving unprecedented sacrifices to attain the ultimate success.

"Pakistan is extending only moral, political and diplomatic support to IoK people, whose ongoing struggle for freedom from Indian occupation is indigenous," he told a group of Pakistani media persons here at the Pakistan High Commission.

"We are not providing any material support to the people of Indian occupied Kashmir," Major General Asif Ghafoor, who is accompanying Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on his three-day official visit to the United Kingdom, said.

He said Kashmir was an issue of core national interest. The Pakistan Army wanted that it should be resolved through dialogue, keeping in the view of the best interests of Pakistan, he added.

He termed the COAS visit to the UK successful. During meetings with the UK authorities, professional matters were discussed, he added.

The DG ISPR called upon the Pakistani media to counter Indian propaganda against Pakistan and its army. The Indian claims of so-called false "surgical strikes" should be exposed, he added.

He called on the nation to get united for defeating the enemies of Pakistan.

Major Gen Asif Ghafoor emphasised on strengthening of the national institutions for the prosperity of Pakistan.

Replying to a question, he said political differences in political parties were the beauty of democracy, he said, adding that all institutions should be made strong which was essential for promotion of democracy in the country.

He said that there was more freedom of media in Pakistan than any other country and called upon the media to project positive developments and achievements of Pakistan at the international level.

Highlighting the contribution of Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies in the war against terrorism, he said Pakistan had lost some 76,000 people, including 16,000 army soldiers.

Replying to a question, he said that there was a strong and transparent accountability mechanism in the Pakistan Army.

He said out of seven former chiefs of army staff, five were living in Pakistan. General (r) Raheel Sharif had gone abroad with the permission of government while General (R) Pervez Musharraf, who was a former president, was abroad as a political leader.

The DG ISPR said after eliminating terrorists from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, the Pakistan Army had started rehabilitation of the tribal people in their native areas by providing facilities of quality education and health, besides infrastructure.
