Shafqat Mehmood Meets RCO Minister , Leads Pakistan Delegation To EWF

LONDON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jan, 2019 ) :Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood here on Tuesday met the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Minister of State for International Development and the middle East Rt. Hon.Alistair Burt and briefed him the about the priorities of government in Education sector.
He was accompanied by provincial and regional representatives from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan, a statement of Pakistan High Commission issued here said.
The Minister who is currently visiting United Kingdom (UK) briefed the UK side about Government of Pakistan's priorities in the education sector.
Noting the fact that Pakistan is at the "cusp of a revolution", the Minister highlighted the government's priority to improve literacy, provide skills training and education to the out of school children.
He also stressed on the importance of adapting to modern means of imparting education through the use of technology and innovative techniques for closing the gap between rich and the poor.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing DFID program in Pakistan.
Minister Burt reaffirmed the UK Government's commitment to support Pakistan.
He highlighted the importance of education as a central element in mutual cooperation between the two countries towards the achieving the common goals and objectives.
The Minister is currently in London to attend the Education World Forum (EWF) on the invitation of The British Council, UK.
He is leading the Pakistani delegation in London.
He addressed the EWF delegates today on the topic: "Interpreting evidence, forming policy and adjusting implementation".
The Minister highlighted government's efforts to increase literacy and modernise the education system of Pakistan.
Shafqat Mehmood particularly mentioned government's commitment to educate the out of school children.
The Education World Forum is the world's largest gathering of education and skills ministers.
The Pakistani delegation, during the three days, will be exchanging ideas with ministers of various countries, policy makers and experts in the field of education and skills training.
The EWF is an annual event held every year in January in London.
