Undesirable human's poking mars pristine environ of Kallar Kahar lake

KALLAR KAHAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jan, 2019 ) :By Erfan Khan The serene and idyllic picturesque surroundings of Kallar Kahar lake must be the reasons to lure the enigmatic brain waves of the most ferocious and sturdy warlord, the founder of Mughal dynasty in the Indo-Pak sub continent, Zaheer ud Din Babar, who along with his invading army perched on its banks during 1519 AD for a brief recline amid the verdant habitat.

Located in tehsil Kallar Kahar of Chakwal district at a distance of about 131kms from Islamabad, the popular natural spot, is easily accessible through Motorway-2 at Kallar Kahar interchange. Through the slip road, the inquisitive souls can reach the destination at stone throw's distance.

Two-lane meandering macadamized road keeps on circumventing the periphery of the lake which spreads over an area of about eight kilometers.

The once famed salt lake situated at an altitude of about 1500 feet above the sea level with approximately five-six meter deep water and surrounded by greenish hills, still attracts flocks of migratory birds. The black and silver headed small ducks, oblivious to the presence of human beings, can be seen swimming on the greenish-pale water of the lake while beneath its surface, shoals of little fish are easily discernible swarming its banks.

The lake is also surrounded with Loquat trees and offers the Takht-e-Babri, a carved out piece of stone which according to historical narrations, had served as sojourn for the Mughal ruler who had put his men to work for the creation of Mughal garden named as 'Bagh-e-Safa'.

Tourists and travelers from the nearby areas and those plying between Lahore and Islamabad in small multitudes often make a brief stopover here having children attraction paraphernalia including pedal boating and motor boating.

But the unchecked mushrooming of restaurants, eateries and recreational facilities which sprung around its banks, are nothing but a vivid unwanted human bearing mark, gradually spoiling the natural habitat.

The roadsides and banks are littered with all sorts of trash and garbage left behind by the revelers, whereas these constructions also block the panorama of the surroundings reminiscent of 'out of sight, out of mind'.

Though, the lake once considered as the ideal fly route for different species of migratory birds during the winter months, no longer offers the same 'lullaby' to the winged creatures that have been forced to skip the location due to the continuous hullabaloo associated with the human presence.

"You can only find ducks in the lake waters. We have not seen swans or cranes swarming its waters," Muhammad Azlan, a frail villager with cranky face lamented while gasping under a weight of fruit crate.

Mahrukh Munawar, accompanying a group of tourists from Lahore, expressed her dismay over the human tainted scenery. "I have heard about this place as one of the adorable abode to offer balming effects amid the fevers and frets of modern life, but the recreational spots and eateries have certainly put an undesirable blot on the gorgeous face of nature." Professor Noshi Agha wants tangible awareness campaign among the visitors and shopkeepers regarding left-over and heaps of litter to avoid environmental degradation.

Others demanded the concerned authorities to swing into action least it is too late to turn the tide of commercialization and wanton human interference taking toll on the speckles, speechless and brittle nature yelling for 'SOS'.
