ISLAMABAD, Jan 6 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Jan, 2019 ) :Pakistan Post is the oldest institution of the country. It is as old as the country itself.

In 1947, it began functioning as the Department of Post & Telegraph. It continued working under the same title till 1962 when Telegraph and Telephone was separated from the Pakistan Post and thus it became a separate entity since then.

Since its inception, Pakistan Post has gone through many tough times but with the ever-changing world around it, Pakistan Post has also gone through massive revitalization.

Currently, Pakistan Post is extending its services to every nook and corner, in addition to some of the special tasks which covers most parts of the country. Thus, with the broader spectrum, Pakistan Post has its broader ambit which works by large number of efficient, dedicated and hard-working employees.

With a large network of over 13000 post offices across country from Khyber to Karachi which are providing dedicated delivery services to 20 million households, business communities, academia and individuals etc. With its head office in Islamabad, Pakistan Post is working through 83 General Post Offices (GPOs). With such a huge network, Pakistan Post is providing bread and butter to over 47,000 families.

On the traditional side, Pakistan Post is playing a pivotal role on behalf of Federal and provincial governments. These diverse services include Savings Banks, Postal Life Insurance, Collection of Taxes, Collection of Electricity, Water, Sui Gas and Telephone bills etc.

As evident from its vision and mission, Pakistan Post has a broad and varied role to play beyond provision of communication link for individuals and businesses. Pakistan Post does not believe in adopting old practice but it has the vision to cope with the outer world which is changing at a rapid speed. That is why Pakistan Post is emphasizing in the use of new communication and information technologies.

Like every vibrant institution, Pakistan Post is actively following its slogan of "Delivery and Information at Lightning Speed". It is committed to make secure and timely delivery of mail, money and material at the doorsteps of the customers at affordable cost.

The latest initiatives of Pakistan Post include International Money Transfer (IMO), Electronic Money Order (EMO) Service, Money Order, Postal Order, Postal Draft and mobile application. These cope with almost all the required services a person desires from an efficient Post Office. These services are available under one roof with a commitment of privacy, speed and accuracy by the department.

Talking to APP about the ongoing projects, Director General, Pakistan Post, Dr. Naseer Ahmed Khan said, as part of the landmark achievements, Pakistan Post serves as a partner with Western Union for disbursing the payments received through Western Union from all corners of the world. He said that Pakistan was helping legal foreign exchange inflow to Pakistan.

Dr. Naseer said that Pakistan Post Savings Bank offers the largest network of savings bank services in the country. Serving on behalf of Ministry of Finance, it has been playing crucial role in encouraging and mobilizing savings among the general populace since long. He said that it was popular both in urban and rural areas, but its operations in rural areas were wide spread and deep rooted. In fact, in most of the remote areas, it was the only banking service available through its extensive network of post offices, adding that Pakistan Post Savings Bank offers a number of very attractive Saving Bank schemes.

About Electronic Money Order (EMO), he said that Pakistan Post launched the service Service for domestic money transfer. The EMO service allows customers for quick money transfer money within the country. Customers are able to transfer money up to Rs.100,000 through EMO Service at very nominal charges ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs.600. The service is available in all 83 GPOs throughout the country. He said that recently Minister for Postal Services Murad Saeed also launched EMO Service post-to- doorstep and Mobile Application.

In the list of most popular and most used services, Pakistan Post Remittance Services are considered to be the most popular. These services provide a secure and cheap mode for remittance of the money. Majority of population lives in rural areas where regular transaction services are scant.
