142mm rain turns weather pleasant in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Aug, 2024) Faisalabad received heavy downpour on Sunday which turned the weather pleasant, in addition to creating numerous problems in low-lying areas.

The dark clouds started prevailing in the sky at night. However, the rain started in the morning and turned the harsh weather into pleasant in addition to converting the roads and streets in low-lying areas into knee-deep water ponds.

According to weather report of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), maximum 142 millimeters rain was recorded in Gulistan Colony while Ghulam Muhammad Abad witnessed 141mm rain. Similarly, 115mm rain was recorded in Madina Town, 102mm in Dogar Basti whereas Allama Iqbal Colony witnessed 83mm rain on Sunday.

Receiving complaints of inundation of city roads, Divisional Commissioner Silwat Saeed directed the Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to immediately take steps for draining out the rainwater from all city roads, especially from the low-lying areas.

She visited various parts of the city including Sammundri Road, Abdullahpur, Canal Road, Jhall Khannuana Chowk, etc. and supervised draining of stagnant rainwater.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh also visited Sammundri Road, Susan Road, Eidgah Road, Civil Lines, Iqbal Stadium, Canal Road, Jhal Khannuana Chowk, Narwala Road, Sargodha Road, underpasses, etc.

and monitored the removal of rainwater. He also checked working of WASA machinery and reviewed its emergency flood relief camps. He also directed the assistant commissioners and officers of WASA and municipal corporation to remain active in the field till complete removal of stagnant rainwater from all city roads and low-lying areas.

Managing Director (MD) WASA Aamer Aziz also remained active in the field to monitor the operation against rainwater. He visited Sammundri Road, Faizan-e-Madina Susan Road and other areas and reviewed working condition of WASA machinery and other gadgets. He said that WASA was using 78 de-watering sets in addition to jetter and sucker machines for draining out rainwater.

He said that all disposal stations and pumps were working at their full capacity while the WASA also arranged generators as alternative source of power supply in case electricity tripping or power outage.

Deputy Managing Director Services Ikramullah Chaudhry also visited various disposal stations and emergency flood relief camps and ensured activation of WASA field staff to deal with emergencies during monsoon rainy season.
