200,000 Afghan Refugees Return To Their Country This Year: UNHCR

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Oct, 2016 ) : The United Nations has said that more than 200,000 Afghan refugees have returned to their country from Pakistan this year. Talking to Voice Of America, UNHCR Spokesperson in Pakistan Dunya Aslam Khan on Thursday said that due to the several factors, Afghan families are choosing repatriation to their homeland.
The process of the repatriation has expedited since 2007 when more than 360,000 refugees went back to Afghanistan under the UNHCR Sponsored Voluntary Repatriation Programme.
She said that almost all Afghans are voluntary returning.
She added that Pakistan introduced a new border management system at Pak-Afghan in June, which further contributed in returning of Afghan refugees. The Spokesperson said the new border management prompted around 6,000 Afghans to go back every day. Dunya Aslam Khan said, "Many heads of the families are working in Afghanistan and coming to visit their families living in Pakistan.
