5 per cent being charged from Federal Govt employees on account of rent: NA told

ISLAMABAD, Mar 7 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Mar, 2017 ) : Parliamentary Secretary for Finance and Revenue Rana Muhammad Afzal Tuesday apprised the National Assembly that no deduction was being carried out from the salaries of Federal government employees on account of repair and maintenance charges for official accommodation.

Opposing the resolution moved by PTI lawmaker Asad Umer that the government should take steps to discontinue deduction of 5 per cent from salaries of the employees on account of repair and maintenance charges, he said the resolution was factually incorrect as only 5 per cent was being charged on account of house rent from the salaries of the employees.

He said 45 per cent house rent was being paid to all those employees who had not yet got official accommodation. He said many employees were aspirant to get government accommodation. Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani said the ministry received meager amount for renovation and repair of government's accommodations.

He said the estate department did not receive the funds directly rather the finance department received it.

Earlier, the House adopted three resolutions including that the government should take steps to undertake expansion/up-gradation of Sukkur International Airport, construct gates and protection walls around Railways tracks passing through populated areas and control unemployment in the country.

The resolutions were moved by Dr Nifsa Shah, Shazia Marri, Asiya Nasir and Aisha Syed. Speaking on their resolution, Dr Nifsa Shah and Shazia Marri said Sindh had only one International Airport and the Sukkur Airport should be up-graded and expanded so large aircraft could also be landed.

They said large aircraft could not land at the Sukkur airport due to narrow runway. Responding to the point raised by the lawmakers, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sheikh Aftab Ahmad said currently there was no proposal under consideration to up-grade the Sukkur Airport. However, he said improvement was being made in other arrangements and facilities. APP/raz/bmq
