630,948 Challan Slips Issued In 2016

RAWALPINDI, Jan 4 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Jan, 2017 ) :- Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) issued 630,948 challan tickets with fines amounting to over Rs 230 million on traffic rules violators during 2016.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Yousaf Ali Shahid, city traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic on city roads impounded 2140 vehicles in various police stations on severe traffic rules violations while a number of drivers were also arrested during the period.
The CTO said action in accordance with the law was taken against the traffic rules violators in Rawalpindi city, Murree, Kotli Sattian, Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kalar Syedan and Kahuta tehsils. 15,363 tinted glass vehicles were challaned and black papers were removed on the spot.
19,868 without registration vehicles and motorcycles were imposed fines while 95,980 without number plate vehicles and 119,865 vehicles having improper number plates were challaned. Drivers of 9,650 vehicles on wrong parking were issued challan slips during last year.
Similarly, 6,699 drivers of vehicles and motorcycles on rash and negligent driving were penalized. 12,351 drivers of public service vehicles on violation of route permits and non-completion of their designated routes were issued penalty tickets.
17,451 under age drivers, 17,892 drivers on use of mobile phones while driving, 17,892 drivers who did not have driving licenses were challaned. Thousands of drivers on other traffic rules violations were penalized.
City Traffic Officer said traffic awareness campaigns were also run during the period while under special campaigns, citizens were educated regarding traffic rules and road safety. education Wing of Traffic Police made efforts to spread awareness so that the road journey could be made safe and sound.
The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens as they were on the roads to facilitate them. A special squad was available to help and facilitate the citizens on Helpline 1915, he added.
