Accountability court  hints to seek more time from Supreme Court to conclude trial against Sharif family

An accountability court (AC) Tuesday hinted to write again to the Supreme Court for seeking another extension in the deadline to complete trial against Sharif family in remaining two references.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Nov, 2018 ) :An accountability court (AC) Tuesday hinted to write again to the Supreme Court for seeking another extension in the deadline to complete trial against Sharif family in remaining two references.

The court also summoned Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday to record his statement in Flagship Investment reference.

Accountability Court-II Judge Arshad Malik conducted the hearing on Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The accused Nawaz Sharif appeared before the court along with his legal team.

As the hearing began, the judge remarked that lets record the statement of Nawaz Sharif this day in Flagship Investment reference under section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The defense lawyer Khawaja Haris replied that the statement recording of the accused should be started from Wednesday, adding that the questions are complex but the defense had no reservations on it.

He said they were required to visit the entire record to find answers of the court questions, thus the defense should be given time till Wednesday.

The court accepted the defense request and summoned Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday for recording his statement.

The Judge remarked that it had to write a letter to the Supreme Court regarding an extension in the deadline of the trial. The court would send Nawaz's statement record along with the letter to apprise the apex court regarding the progress in trial, he added.

Meanwhile, the defense counsel continued cross-examining with NAB Investigation Officer Muhammad Kamran, who informed the court that NAB had not served call up notice to accused Hassan and Hussain Nawaz on their abroad address.

He came to know through the report of joint investigation team (JIT) that the both accused were non-resident citizen of Pakistan, he said, adding that he had found record of more properties owned by the accused after filing a reference against them.

During hearing, the judge asked the defense lawyer to avoid irrelevant question to the NAB witness. On which, Haris said he was not used to object without any reason.

Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case till Wednesday.
