Affectees Of Empress Market To Be Accommodated In Three Phases

As many as 150 shopkeepers of inside of Empress Market are given alternative, whereas affectees of outside of the market will be given alternate in three phases.
The affectees will be given shops in the parking plaza, then in nearest KMC markets and in the third phase the government will provide land to shopkeepers so they could construct shops there.
It was decided in a high level meeting co-chaired by Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ahmed Shalwani and Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar at the Commissioner Office, said a statement on Friday.
The meeting was also attended by the Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman and representatives of all other civic organizations.
It was also decided in the meeting that all concrete structures or other encroachments from city drains, footpaths and parks and roundabouts will be removed immediately irrespective of their falling in any jurisdiction.
Action will be taken on M.A Jinnah Road, Aram Bagh, Jama Cloth Market, Khori Garden, Lea Market and other areas for removal of encroachments.
Banks and other such organizations will also have to face this action, which have set up their power generators or established parking sites on city foot paths and did not shift or remove it in three days.
During the meeting police and rangers were thanked for providing cooperation in this campaign against encroachments and it was decided to further pace up the action and lodge F.I.R against those who create hurdles in government works.
Later, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar along with Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shalwani and Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman visited the internal and outer side of the Empress Market in Saddar and reviewed the situation there.
Talking to media representatives on this occasion, Waseem Akhter said that this campaign was not initiated by a single organization or person but was coordinated by various responsible organizations on the directive of the Supreme Court.
All decisions about anti-encroachment operation were made in consultation with all these organizations besides the provincial minister for local government Saeed Ghani was also taken into confidence, he added.
He said that the promise made by the commissioner Karachi with the affectees of Empress Market will be fulfilled, the debris and waste from around the Empress Market has been lifted and next planning was done.
He said that now action against encroachments from city drains and footpaths was initiated without seeing the jurisdiction of an organization.
The Mayor Karachi said that those, who cooperated in this campaign will not be left unattended and they will be provided with alternative place for their business.
He also thanked the Bahria Town for providing machinery for lifting of debris from Empress Market.
The Mayor Karachi also visited the Parking Plaza in Saddar along with the Commissioner Karachi and enquired about the facility.
The Mayor Karachi said cleaning work in the Parking Plaza Saddar will be performed soon.
