AG Appointment Lawful, On Merit: Law Minister

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2019 ) :Punjab Minister for Law Raja Muhammad Basharat on Thursday said the appointment of Advocate General (AG) Punjab was made on merit and all legal and constitutional requirements were fulfilled in this regard.

Responding to an Adjournment Motion by opposition MPA Raheela Khadim during the Punjab Assembly session with Speaker Chaudhry Pervazi Elahi in the chair, the minister said AG's appointment was not a case of nepotism.

Earlier, Punjab Assembly session started one hour fifty minutes behind its scheduled time of 11 a.m.

The minister told the House that no legal action would be initiated against the MPAs who took part in the protest by the Local Government Mayors outside the Punjab Assembly.

Speaker PA Chaudhry Pervazi Elahi told the House that Local Government Bill would be tabled before the house for adoption very soon so that problems faced by the local government could be overcome.

In her adjournment motion, Opposition MPA Rabia Farooqi stated that the use of drugs caused five deaths per month, while the use of drugs was on the rise in educational institutions.

The Speaker constiututed a committee under Punjab Law Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat to check the trend of drugs in educational institutions.

Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed answered the questions relating to his department.

Five different audit reports were laid before the house which were referred to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC II).

Speaker Chaudhry Perviaz Elahi adjourned the house for tomorrow (Friday) at 9:00 am on completion of agenda items for the day.
