Keeping in view the reports that the bidding will again cross Rs 5 million, he is now reconsidering his decision.
Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th December, 2018) Ali Khan Tareen, the son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senior leader Jahangir Tareen, is reconsidering his decision to buy the sixth team of the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Taking to Twitter, Ali Tareen said the Multan Sultans was sold for Rs 5.2 million the previous year but the owners failed to pay the Pakistan Cricket board (PCB), leading to new bids.
He said that he was planning to bid for the team expecting a price around Rs 4 million. Keeping in view the reports that the bidding will again cross Rs 5 million, he is now reconsidering his decision.
“Last year when Multan Sultans was sold for 5.2m, I felt it was overpriced. A year later the owners failed to pay PCB, leading to new bids. To keep the team in South Punjab, I planned to bid expecting a price around 4m. But khabr hai ke phir 5m cross ho ga. Now Im reconsidering,” he wrote.
In another tweet, Ali said although these are just rumours, the initial bid last year was over Rs 5 million.
“Obviously the khabr that some bidders will cross 5m are just rumours. Some group even told me they’re bidding 7m! People made similar claims last year but no ones initial bid was over 5m.
#HavaiFire” he added.
Ali had shown interest in buying the sixth team when the PCB had terminated the franchise agreement of Multan Sultans after they failed to meet their financial obligations.
Following the termination of the contract, all rights in respect of the team were reverted back to the PCB.
"We are making sure that the team from South Punjab does not get out of our hands," Ali Tareen said, adding, "We are working on cricket in South Punjab."
"Our goal is to make an academy and ground in every district of south Punjab and support club cricket so that young cricketers can have a chance to play at the national level", he had said.
The owner of the sixth team will however be decided after tenders will be issued.
Ali Tareen contested on his father’s seat in NA-154 (Lodhran) by-poll after Jahangir Tareen was disqualified by the Supreme Court but lost to Iqbal Shah of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Later, Ali Tareen excused from contesting the general elections 2018 owing to his studies.
