GUJRANWALA: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 7th, 2024) In the case concerning the May 9 riots, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aliya Hamza was released from Gujranwala Central Jail following a court order.
Aliya Hamza’s release papers were processed earlier in the day, and she departed the jail accompanied by her family.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) had previously barred the law enforcement agencies from arresting Hamza in any new cases until August 29.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the LHC made this ruling while hearing a petition from Hamza Jameel, Aliya Hamza's husband, who requested protective bail to prevent her from being arrested in cases she was not aware of.
Justice Najafi remarked that no agency would arrest Aliya Hamza without permission of the Lahore High Court.
Aliya Hamza had been behind the bars for around a year over her alleged role in May 9 riots.
