All eyes on NA-120 Lahore; 32 in the field already

As many as 32 candidates have already obtained the nomination papers for NA-120 Lahore by-elections,to be contested on September 19

LAHORE,Aug 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Aug, 2017 ) : As many as 32 candidates have already obtained the nomination papers for NA-120 Lahore by-elections,to be contested on September 19.

According to a spokesperson of ECP Lahore office, the candidates will start filing their nomination from Thursday.As per schedule the nominations will be received till August 12. ECP has announced the details of polling stations, booth,staff and other measures for organising the polling process transparently.

As many as 321633 registered voters will use their right to vote in by-election of NA-120 Lahore.This seat fell vacant after the disqualification of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif by Supreme Court of Pakistan.

A total of 179505 male and 142128 female voters will use their right at 568 polling booths (male 310,female 258) of 220 polling stations. The ECP will arrange 103 male, 98 female and 19 combined polling stations to facilitate voters.

As many as 220 Presiding Officers,568 Assistant Presiding Officers and 568 Polling Officers will look after the polling process at the polling stations. District Returning Officer Mr. Tahir Hassan REC Faisalabad,Returning Officer Mr.

Muhammad Shahid DEC Bahwalnagar,three Assistant Returning Officers Abdullah Khurram,Assistant Commissioner (City) Lahore,Ihasan-ul-Haq District education Officer (Secondary) Lahore,Khalid Mehmood Assistant Director (Elections) lahore and Commissioner Lahore, DC Lahore and CCPO Lahore will supervise the polling process.

ECP has announced by-polls in Lahore's NA-120 constituency for September 17. As per schedule issued by ECP, the nomination papers may be submitted between August 10 and 12. The scrutiny of the papers will be held between August 15 and 17, while the final list of candidates will be issued on August 26.

It may be mentioned here that former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was victorious on this seat with 91683 votes, while Dr Yasmeen Rashid remained runner up with 52354 votes in general election 2013.

Other 24 candidates from various parties were also in the field in 2013 but they could not cut the lion's share of both the candidates of PML-N and PTI. In 2013, only 153328 out of 295826 registered voters used their right to vote with 51.85 percent turn out,with 2031 rejected.

In the provincial capital,only a single bye-election of NA-122 was contested in 2015 and in this tension-filled close contest PML-N's Sardar Ayaz Sadiq retained his NA-122 Lahore seat by defeating PTI's Abdul Aleem Khan. Ayaz Sadiq secured 76,204 votes and his rival Aleem Khan 72,043 and it was the fourth consecutive win for Ayaz since 2002, twice against PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
