All major rivers flow normal: Federal Flood Commission

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that all the main rivers, including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, are flowing normal while the River Kabul continues to flow in low flood in "Warsak-Nowshera Reach".

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2018 ) :The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that all the main rivers, including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, are flowing normal while the River Kabul continues to flow in low flood in "Warsak-Nowshera Reach".

According to the daily FFC report on Saturday, Tarbela and Mangla dams levels were at 1455.03 feet and 1131.10 feet respectively (94.97 feet & 110.90 feet below their respective maximum conservation level of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet).

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 2.807 MAF (20.52 % as compared to the existing combined live storage capacity of 13.681 MAF).

According to FFD, Lahore, Friday's trough of westerly wave over northern parts of Afghanistan lay over northeastern Afghanistan and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lay over northwestern Balochistan and was likely to intensify.

Moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, which were penetrating into upper parts of Pakistan upto 4000 feet, are likely to strengthen from Sunday. Firday's Yesterday's Monsoon Low over central Madhya Pradesh (India) has become insignificant whereas Monsoon Low over Northwestern Bay of Bengal today lies over Coastal Orissa (India) as Well Marked Low.

FFD, Lahore has predicted scattered wind thunderstorm/ rain with isolated moderate to heavy falls over the upper catchments of all major Rivers including Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and D G Khan divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara and D I Khan divisions) during the next 24 hours.

In view of the developing meteorological conditions, the monsoon activity is likely to increase from July 22, which may cause isolated heavy falls with one or two very heavy falls over the upper catchments of the rivers Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, besides, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi divisions of Punjab during the period from July 22 to 24.

Scattered thunderstorm/rain with moderate to heavy falls are also expected over the upper catchments of River Jhelum, besides, Punjab (Sahiwal & D.G. Khan divisions) during the same period. As a result, the flows in River Chenab and tributaries of rivers Ravi and Chenab (local nullahs) may increase from Monday.

Urban flooding is expected in some major cities of Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore and Faisalabad divisions) during the period from Sunday to Tuesday.
