ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2019 ) :A large number of students and literary figures from all over the country Wednesday thronged a day-long 'Pothohar literary festival' held here at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).
"As many as 1,000 students from various educational institutions attended the festival today," he informed.
The participants highlighted the importance of regional language and literature in eight sessions.
The festival arranged by the varsity's urdu department was aimed at sensitizing the students about cultural and heritage diversity offered by their own country, he said.
The spokesperson said the programme was a part of the University's consistent efforts to promote healthy activities among the students.
Speaking on the occasion, AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr.
Zia-Ul-Qayyum announced that the university would soon initiate dialogue on the socio-economic issues and had planned to arrange such events on regular basis here at the main Campus and their 49 regional offices.
He said it would also mobilize their television and radio network for projecting the dialogue process which would eventually help develop public consensus on national issues.
The role of academia was highly important for this purpose, he added.
Dean Social Science Dr. Samina Awan and the�Chairman of the Urdu Department Dr. Abdul Aziz Sehr also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various features of the festival.
Eminent writers��I. A. Rehman, Ghazi Salahuddin, Prof Fateha Muhammad Malik, Iftikhar Arif, Farooq Qaiser, Dr. Sheeba Alam, Ayaz Ahmed, Hasan Miraz, Hameed Shahid, Asghar Nadeem Syed, Adeel Hashmi ahd Hasan Miraj also graced the event with their presence.
