Angry at supporting Pakistan, Indian traders burn Chinese goods

The traders, who also urged consumers to boycott Chinese imports, are concerned that Chinese products are hurting Indian manufacturers.

New Delhi (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th March, 2019) India is furious at China for supporting Pakistan as it vetoed blacklisting Masood Azhar in the United Nations Security Council and is in turn hurting itself by burning the Chinese goods.

Hundreds of Indian traders burned Chinese goods on Tuesday and urged the government to raise import taxes on them to protest against China’s trade and foreign policies.

The traders, who also urged consumers to boycott Chinese imports, are concerned that Chinese products are hurting Indian manufacturers.

The Indian traders burned Chinese goods including laptops, mobile phones, computers, fax machines and toys in New Delhi’s Sadar Bazar, the city’s main market for Chinese goods.

The Confederation of All India Traders, which represents millions of traders, said their action against Chinese goods was aimed at teaching it a lesson, after it used its veto to block Masood Azhar’s blacklisting.

Beijing had earlier blocked a proposal against Masood Azhar in the United Nation Security Council.

France, United Kingdom and the US had proposed the move in the UNSC for declaring Jaishe Muhammad chief a global terrorist but China had put on hold the request by three powerful countries by using its veto power.

Beijing had asked for adopting a reasonable approach on the matter and emphasized upon the solution of Kashmir dispute.

Indian foreign ministry in a statement had stated that it “was disappointed by the outcome”, adding that it would continue to pursue all avenues to make sure “terrorist leaders who are involved in heinous attacks on our citizens are brought to justice”.

The issue caused a rift between India and China.
