Anjum Nazir predicts intermittent rain to continue until Saturday, followed by week-long downpour starting Sunday

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jul, 2025) Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Anjum Nazir Zaigham, on Thursday predicted that light to moderate showers will continue off and on until Saturday evening, with heavier rains expected across Punjab starting Sunday for the next seven days.

In an exclusive conversation with a local news channel, the Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department said that the twin cities will experience intermittent rain over the next two days until Saturday, which will then continue for a week starting Sunday, adding that on Thursday at 8 o'clock, the highest rainfall was recorded with 190 mm at Islamabad Airport and 179 mm in Rawalpindi.

Regarding flood preparedness, he explained that at Nullah Lai, all relevant stakeholders are on the same page and the Meteorological Department is providing updates every 10 minutes to the rescue and emergency response departments to ensure timely action.

He said that in the coming week, areas from the Potwar region to Kashmir are expected to receive rain. From July 19 onwards, northeastern parts of Sindh will also experience rainfall; however, the intensity of rain in Sindh has not been predicted yet.

According to him, rainfall is expected in Balochistan, covering areas from the northern highlands to the southern districts such as Khuzdar and Lasbela.

Regarding another question, he stated that the Meteorological Department expects rains and had forecasted intense heavy rainfall for this year, attributing it to climate change.

The Deputy Director advised the public to stay vigilant during the upcoming rainy period, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. He also urged residents living near flood-prone areas, especially around Nullah Lai, to remain alert and cooperate with rescue teams to ensure their safety.
