Asad for taking benefit from economic opportunities in region

ISLAMABAD, Dec 8 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Dec, 2018 ) :Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan Asad Qaiser Saturday underlined the need for evolving coordinated approach to take benefit from economic opportunities in the region.

"Rich energy, human and natural resources; bridging important regions by our locations or sheer size; and our individual strong cultural and linguistic heritage are tremendous assets that we can put together for our collective benefit", the speaker said this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the second speakers' conference in Tehran, Iran.

The Chairman State Duma of Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Vyacheslav Voldon, Speaker of Grand National Assembly Turkey Binali Yildrim, Speaker of Wolesi Jirga of Afghanistan Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China also attended the event.

He said Pakistan had hosted first speaker conference in Islamabad in December 2017, to discuss and find out the solution of the problems being faced by the member countries, said a message received here from Tehran.

"A year later, the second speakers' conference in Tehran provides another opportunity to member countries to continue the useful exchange of views on key challenges," the speaker said.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Hassan Rouhani attended the inaugural ceremony of the second Speakers' conference as chief guest.

Asad apprised the participants that the successful operations of Zarb-e-Azab and Radd-ul-Fasad had eliminated the terrorists.

Asad Qaiser further said the terrorist incidents of mass violence had registered a remarkable decline. International community had recognized Pakistan's efforts to eliminate terrorism from the region, he added.

He further said the location of our region had great strategic significance. However, despite enormous potential, connectivity in our region is an issue.

"Unfortunately, deteriorating security situation and regional disputes have obstructed regional integration and economic prosperity. Pakistan has been strong proponent of regional connectivity and has constructively participated in all regional connectivity initiatives", the speaker added.

While concluding his speech, Speaker National Assembly transferred the Presidency of the Speakers' conference to Dr. Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Speaker of the Islamic Parliament of Iran as per agreed charter of the Speakers' conference.
