Asad Umar Responds To PPP’s Criticism Over Economy

Former finance minister said the people had witnessed the worst economic situation during the PPP regime. Then, he added, economic growth was lowest in the country’s history.
LAHORE- (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News- 24th April 2019) Former finance minister Asad Umar has responded the PPP criticism over his replacement with Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and country’s economic policy.
He said four finance ministers were changed during the five-year tenure (2008-2013) of PPP. He asked the PPP to explain its position on the matter, pointing out could we say it was then a PPP’s failure?
He said the people had witnessed the worst economic situation during the PPP regime. Then, he added, economic growth was lowest in the country’s history.
"I fear no one ever placed figures in front of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
I’m telling you [Mr. Bilawal] that at the end of their [the PPP's] five years, the GDP growth rate was 2.8pc,” he said, adding there had never been a government in Pakistan with a lower GDP growth rate in country’s history.
He admitted that people were worried that GDP growth has slowed down and it according to observer bodies ranged from 3-3.9 percent.
He also admitted that lawmakers are worried because there is inflation and people in their Constituencies were asking them about it.
