HYDERABAD, Nov. 11 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Nov, 2016 ) : The Autism Syndrome Disorder is a development disorder that affects the way a person communicates with and relates to people around him, said eminent child consultant, Dr.
Salma Shaikh. Talking to APP here on Friday she informed that the autism syndrome disorder usually noticed first when a child reaches at the age of three years and it was identified by three areas of difficulty for the autistic person including social relationships and communications, imagination and planning and repetitive behaviors.
Some people with autism may never learn to talk but they engage in repetitive movements, she said and added that, the causes of autism were not known while it lasts throughout a person’s lifetime.
She said that recent studies strongly suggested that some had a genetic predisposition to autism and researchers were looking for clues about genes that contribute to this increased susceptibility.
Evidence also suggests that some emotional disorders such as manic depression occur more frequently than average in the families of people with autism, she added. She said that Autism affects brain function in girls and boys of all races and in all geographic regions and has a large impact on children, their families, communities and societies.
Dr. Salma Shaikh said that treatment besides cure can help the patient and the treatment included the behavior and communication therapies and medicines to control symptoms. There were many strategies for helping an autistic child or person but the best ones were based on understanding the individual, she added.
