Batch of 23 clerks inducted in Parliament

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Oct, 2016 ) : A batch of 23 clerks, selected from different universities across the country, was inducted in the Parliament here on Monday. The induction, made under the programme titled 'The Clerks of Parliament,' is aimed at providing an opportunity to youth so that they could better understand working of the Parliament and produce new ideas for improved liaison between elected representatives and the public.

Addressing the induction ceremony, held here at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani felicitated the group of clerks for becoming part of the prestigious forum - the Parliament.

He said the selection and induction under the programme had been made on merit through a transparent process, consisted of written tests and interviews. "The selected candidates will get a lifetime experience of working at the Senate of Pakistan, where they can make vital contributions by getting updated knowledge and conceiving fresh ideas and pointing out flaws in the existing system, if any," he added.

The Senate Chairman said such programmes should also be initiated at the provincial level for capacity building of the staff associated with provincial assemblies. He expressed confidence that the programme 'Clerks of Pakistan' would play an effective role in bridging the gap between governments and masses, adding that it would make good connections between elected representatives and public at the grassroots level.

Giving details of the first batch formation, Secretary of the Senate Amjed Pervez Malik said the group was consisted of 23 clerks, out of which 15 were male and 8 were female. As many as 11 clerks had been selected from Punjab, five from Sindh, two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four from Balochistan and one from Federal Administered Tribal Areas,he said.

The selection had been made from Balochistan University of IT Engineering and Management Sciences, BUITEMS, Quetta, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Foremen Christian College Lahore, Foundation University Islamabad, IBA, Sukkur, IM Sciences Peshawar, International Islamic University, Islamabad, National University of Modern Languages (NUML), National University of Science and Technology (NUST), PIDE: Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, U.O.B Balochistan and the University of Karachi.

He termed the induction a beginning of new era for the Senate of Pakistan, adding "an era in which the House of Federation has made its mark as a pioneer of leading the youth under a flag of parliamentary enlightenment."
