Benefits Of CMI Highlighted
KARACHI, Jan 3 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Jan, 2017 ) : A technical team of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics visited Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to discuss the implementation plan and monitoring policies of census of manufacturing industries (CMI) in the year 2015-16.
The team was led by its Deputy Director General Dr. Bahrawar Jan and initiative was launched under the project of Change of Base of National Accounts (CBNA), said statement issues by FPCCI. President of FPCCI Zubair F.
Tufail briefly explained the activities of FPCCI and assured his support and cooperation to the PBS in successful completion of CMI as it provides a data base for further planning and research which is a pre-requisite for industrialization.
He appreciated that CMI focuses on the production and investment behaviour of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) covering establishments employing 10 or more employees. CMI covers establishments engaged in manufacturing activities for part or whole of the year with single or joint ownership and are registered under Factories Act, 1934, but defense manufacturing workshops are excluded from the preview of CMI, he added.
Dr. Bahrawar Jan Deputy Director General PBS gave a detail presentation on CMI 2015-16.
He discussed the importance and benefits of census of manufacturing industries which is conducted on regular basis since 1954 (after every 5 years) to capture structural changes in Large Scale Manufacturing Industries during intervening period.
He elaborated that the PBS has changed the operation mechanism for CMI 2015-16 and reaching out to the establishments in person for distribution and collection of questionnaire which has now been reduced from 11 pages to 5 pages to collect accurate, reliable and precise data including quantities and values of inputs and outputs, value added, contribution to GDP, fixed assets, stocks, employment, wages and Industrial taxes of large scale units.
He said that in the CMI would be conducted in all the province of Pakistan and informed that the individuals information of any unit would be kept confidential and would not be given to any agency etc as apprehended by some entrepreneurs.
He said that beside census survey the data is also collected from Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Federal board of Revenue (FBR), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), industrial zones, yellow pages, provincial labor department etc., to cross check and update the world.
