Biological Phase Against Chikunguniya, Dengue Kicks Off In DMC-Central

KARACHI, Jan 6 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 06th Jan, 2017 ) : The District Municipal Corporation (DMC), Karachi Central, has initiated biological phase against Chikumgunya and Dengue fever. In a statement Chairman DMC Central, Rehan Hashmi, said here on Friday.
Dr Tariq Rajput, Assistant Professor of Karachi University Zoological Department, was also present on the occasion. Hashmi also briefed the media about the biological phase against breeding of mosquitoes, responsible for the said disease.
He further said that DMC Central administration wishes to provide its citizens not only clean but also healthy atmosphere and environment free of every threat to their health. He informed that with the collaboration of Zoological Department of University of Karachi, DMC central is going to use hunter fishes namely Gappy, Rainbow and Dengue which eat larva and eggs of mosquitoes.
These fish will be put into fountains, ponds and other places where water is found stagnant. Assistant Professor Dr Tariq Rajput from Zoological Department of University of Karachi said that there is one cause of all the three disease and it is the mosquito.
If we can prevent the growth and breeding of mosquitoes we would be able to eliminate Chikunguniya, Degue Fever and Malaria from our society, he added. Vice chairman DMC East Abdul Rauf, Municipal Commissioner DMC Central Waseem Soomro, Chief Medical Officer, Dr.
Hamid and Information Officer DMC Central Alamgeer Saifee were also present on the occasion. Spray of insecticides has been carried out in the first phase. Now in the second phase mosquito killer fish are going to be used to prevent the growth and breeding of mosquitoes so as to eliminate the possibilities of spreading lethal diseases in the city.
Hashmi was of the view that the performance of DMC Central regarding 100 days' cleanliness drive is going well. About 70,000 tons of is being removed daily the residential areas whereas about 50% of the backlog of the garbage has been removed up till the 37th day of cleanliness movement.
