BZU Honours 7,000 Students At Convocation

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Dec, 2017 ) :Around 7,000 students were awarded degrees at Bahahuddin Zakariya University (BZU) 14th convocation held at Jinnah Auditorium here on Tuesday.
As many as 52 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), got their degrees in addition to 224 gold medalists of MA/MSc, M.Phil and BS students in the ceremony. The students of sessions 2010-12 and 2011-13 for MA/ MSc and M.
Phil were bestowed degrees besides students who qualified Bachelors of Science ( BS) during 2008-12 and 2009-13 sessions got their certificates. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana, said that seeking education was the basic right of every citizen while providing education opportunities was the liability of the state.
He stated that education and training of the students go side by side, adding that varsities should focus on this aspect too. The governor, who is also the chancellor of BZU, informed that he was much concerned about the quality education of all the varsities specially BZU.
"As Chancellor, I am much concerned about the quality education", Rajwana said and added that a good manger was the one who could manage in crises. Heaping praising on female students for receiving more positions as compared to male, he urged upon parents to let their daughters serve in the field instead of making them sit at home.
Pakistan is a country with almost all types of blessings having multi-talented and potential youth, the governor said adding that youth was our future.
Rajwana hailed the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan Army, LEAs, students of Army Public school, Peshawar and Baacha Khan University, Charsadda in war against terror saying that they were proud of them.
He said that Pakistani were peace loving people and the world should acknowledge it. The governor facilitated parents, faculty members and qualifying students adding that the graduate should put the medals and degrees in the laps of their mothers.
Earlier, in his welcome address, BZU Vice Chancellor, Dr Tahir Amin highlighted the number of steps taken in last two years under his administration. He informed that they had recruited 200 professors which makes 25 per cent of the total faculty on merit.
Dr Tahir Amin said that knowledge based economy was dire need of the hour with international academic culture in the varsities of the country, adding that education was under immense pressure these days.
A varsity has to play a crucial role in the social and economic sphere, the VC said and added that the BZU has been ranked among 300 top universities of Asia. He said that he wanted to see the BZU among top varsities of the world like Stanford and Howard in future. A large number of dignitaries, deans, chairmen, directors, parents and students attended the convocation.
