Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 18th March, 2019) Ride-hailing service Careem is known for its unique and intriguing advertisements.
However, it appears to sometimes go too far in its marketing gimmicks.
In one of its recent ads, Careem promoted its bike service by encouraging girls to run away from their weddings.
The ad features a bride along with the tagline, “Apni shaadi se bhaagna ho to tou Careem bike karo” (Book a Careem bike if you want to run from your wedding).
The ad has been receiving mixed response from Pakistanis as it seems to be going against our cultural values. On the other hand, some people appreciated the idea as girls are often forced into marriages under family pressure.
Here’s how Twitter is debating over the new ad:
Most people are furious over the ad
Some people are looking at it positively
This perfectly describes the situation of a runaway bride
Looks like Careem likes to spark controversies. This ad is just one of the many marketing hits and misses by Careem.
