Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Muhammad Saleem Baig Wednesday briefed about the operational activities, licensing, enforcement and recovery status in Multan Region.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Dec, 2018 ) :Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Muhammad Saleem Baig Wednesday briefed about the operational activities, licensing, enforcement and recovery status in Multan Region.

During his visit to Regional Office Multan he was briefed about the efforts made vis-�-vis drive against illegal Indian Direct to Home Service/ Channels by the In-charge Regional Office Faqir Afzal Masoom.

The PEMRA chairman was also briefed on the ongoing crackdown being carried out by PEMRA field staff in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies including Federal Investigation Agency, Customs Intelligence, Police and Rangers, against the illegal Indian DTH in the country. During this crackdown a large number of illegal equipment has been seized including 222 C-Line Receivers, 273LNBs, 66 Dish Antennas and other related equipment.

� Efforts of PEMRA field staff were appreciated by the PEMRA chairman.

He urged them to continue crackdown and enforcement drive more effectively against sale/purchase of illegal Indian DTH,C-Line and Jadoo Box and associated activities to completely eliminate the grey-market of Indian DTH and ensure strict compliance of orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, as proliferation of illegal Indian DTH is not only detrimental to the social, cultural and religious values of our society, but it is also causing huge financial loss to the country's exchequer.

� During the visit, the chairman also held meeting with the representatives of the cable operators of Multan and asked them to operate within the legal ambit, as any illegal activity will be responded by strict action by PEMRA, and ensure strict compliance of the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding Indian content.

He accentuated that the cable operators should play their role in creating awareness among the masses especially by relying the public service messages on pressing issues, such as Supreme Court Dam Fund, Clean Green Pakistan and traffic laws, which play a pivotal role in making of a socially responsible society. Moreover, he assured to address all the fair demands of cable tv operators and take measure to make the industry flourish.

� While talking to officials at Regional Office Multan, PEMRA chief stressed upon the need for ensuring an open door policy as well as regular communication with all stakeholders and adopt policy for imparting facilitation and support to the licensees in accordance with PEMRA law. He was accompanied by Director General Operations Muhammad Farooq, General Manager Operations Muhammad Tahir and Secretary to the Authority Fakhar-ud-Din Mughal.
