November 20 is observed as Universal Children's Day every year around the world, which improves child welfare worldwide, promote and celebrate children rights. This year the theme of the Universal Children day is " Invest and children".

Talking to APP here on Monday, in connection with the Universal Children's Day National Manager Society of Protection of Rights of Child (SPARC), Kashif Bajeer said that there is need to focus on children basic rights as provided by the law of the land and international covenants.

Kashif Bajeer referred to the fact of figure of International Labour Organization (ILO) estimated that 168 million children are victims of child labour and at least 5.5 million children are of forced labour around the world.

He said that lack of implementation of legislation was major hindrance and children, being the vulnerable ones, needed protection from violence and abuse.

He further said that children's fundamental right to education was legally protected and hence it should be enforced by all means.

Kashif Bajeer informed since "Thar" was going through the crisis due to drought, thus leading to migration of Tharis towards irrigated areas and said that in such situations children did suffer more.

He said that thousands of Thari children due to migration had been deprived their right to education.

Manager SPARK said that besides conscious people of the society, it is also imperative to have the cooperation of members of children families to eradicate child labor.

Unfortunately, Kashif Bajeer said, children are being subjected to forced labour in the Third World and to some extent also in developed countries.

He also emphasized the need for a continuous interaction among government, civil society and media on child issues, saying that it would be in the best interest of young generation.

He appreciated the role of media and said that they raising the issues of the children at local and national level, still more efforts are needed so that the related laws could be implemented effectively, he added.
