Cholistan veterinary university to be functional soon

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -6th Sept,2016) : The construction work of Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS) in Bahawalpur is in progress with a brisk pace which will be completed withing one and a half years.

The PDWP has earlier approved its PC-I amounting Rs 2395 million. The government has already allocated 1000 acers of land in Bahawalpur for the university. The work for land leveling has also been completed and boundary walls were being constructed to launch it within two years.

Around four sessions of training of its staff including teachers in Turkey have also been completed. The steering committee of this project has also completed its three meetings to review the progress of the project Vice Chancellor UVAS Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, who is a focal person for the execution of this project talking to APP on Tuesday said the livestock sector was a source of livelihood and food security for its people in the country especially in South Punjab.

This sector has also enormous potential for economic growth of the country.

Cholistan is one of the major livestock holding territories in Punjab that is spread over an area of 26000 square kilometers of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts to exploit the potential of livestock resources of Southern Punjab due to which the University is being established.

The University is being established with the collaboration of two Turkish Universities Selcuk university and Ankara University. The new University will have three faculties namely Bio-Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and Animal Production and Technology.

It will have 18 departments and an institute of continuing education and extension. It will also have teaching and research centers on Dairy Cattle, Beef Animals, Sheep and Goats, Camels, Poultry, Pet and Wildlife a Central Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, 16 Departmental Laboratories, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Pet and Wild Animal Hospital and Computer Laboratories along with library, student teacher center, seminar rooms, auditorium, sports complex and staff and students residential facilities.
