ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Oct, 2018 ) :The citizens of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have urged the authorities to take action against drivers for violation of traffic rules and rash driving that leads to fatal accidents on roads.
People complain that many of the car drivers use mobile phones while driving which slow downs the flow of traffic on roads and distracts the drivers causing accidents.
Sharing her concerns, Naila Ahmed said that youngsters and hasty drivers create troubles for other drivers.'"I feel insecure while driving on a highway with my little daughter," she added. It was already tough for women to drive on the busy roads and the traffic violators make other drivers anxious and fearful, she explained.
Strict action was needed to be taken against law breakers to keep others safe, said Hina Lashari, a young driver irritably. "They take selfies, make calls and text messages while driving which slows the traffic pace and cause chaos sometimes," she complained.
A senior lecturer of National University of Modern Languages said, "We need to make aware young generation and people of reckless nature about the value of life. The youngsters definitely have to experience the world on their own and we just have to ensure their safety," he explained.
On contacting, Superintendent of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Arshad Mahmood told that the Traffic Police has planned to hold a workshop "Defensive Driving" next week to educate youngsters of twin cities about road safety rules. Islamabad Traffic Police has taken a number of initiatives to spread awareness among public about traffic rule violations and use of mobile phones while riding on the roads, he added. Traffic police has also tightened the noose around bike riders who do not use helmet while driving, he informed.
He said that our educational team organizes workshops and seminars to instruct young drivers about safety of life while driving. "We believe that counseling works better than penalty so our appointed counselors teach young drivers about the value of life and for this purpose they have been visiting educational institutes," he informed.
Educating the people was an effective and continuous but slow process and bring positive change in attitude of road users. We are focusing on young minds and urging them to obey traffic rules wholeheartedly. We encourage children to attend workshops along with their parents," he stated.
More than eight accidents have occurred during last month in which people were severely injured and cause was negligence and careless driving, he told.
