Says Musharraf will not be inquired about his assets when he comes to Pakistan
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 25th September, 2018) The Supreme Court has ordered to open the Chak Shehzad farmhouse of former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf.
A hearing on the NRO case was held in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that Musharraf will be provided security upon arrival in Pakistan.
“Pervez Musharraf will be provided security wherever he lands. A contingent of Rangers will welcome the former president at the airport,” the CJP said.
The CJP further remarked that Musharraf can get medical treatment from the doctor of his choice in Pakistan. He should come and record his statement and when he is released, he is free to travel anywhere he wants, the CJP added.
CJP Nisar said that Musharraf’s residence should be cleaned before he arrived and directed Naeem Bukhari to examine cleanliness situation at his farmhouse.
The CJP said that the government removed Musharraf’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL). The Supreme Court had no role in either adding his name to the ECL or removing it.
“We will not inquire Musharraf about his assets when he comes to Pakistan,” he said.
The CJP then asked about the schedule of Musharraf’s return.
To this, his lawyer Akhtar Shah said that Musharraf is not a coward. He will return to Pakistan if he is provided security.
The CJP then assured that Musharraf can get the security of a brigade if he wants.
Musharraf’s lawyer further said that all of his client’s properties have been sealed; therefore, he is temporarily staying in Dubai.
The CJP said that all the doors will be open for Musharraf when he returns. “We will hold a hearing on Saturday even if he appears before the court on that day.”
The CJP said that Musharraf has fled the country with an excuse of backache but he is partying there.
He should trust the courts. He will be given permanent residence in the country, he added.
Musharraf’s counsel requested for a week’s time to consult with his client which was granted by the CJP.
