College sports gala in Sambrial Sialkot

A non-governmental organisation, Baidarie Sialkot, organised sports gala at the Govt Islamia Degree College Sambrial here on Saturday.

SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Mar, 2018 ) :A non-governmental organisation, Baidarie Sialkot, organised sports gala at the Govt Islamia Degree College Sambrial here on Saturday. The International Labour Organisation (ILO), Employers Federation of Pakistan and the Government of Japan were partners in organising the event under the project 'More and Better Jobs through Socially Responsible Labour practices in Pakistan', with an aim to pave the way for revitalisation of the passion for sports in our youth.

Shinichi Honda, First Secretary (Deputy Head, Economic & Development Section, Embassy of Japan in Islamabad-Pakistan), Sho SUDO (Chief Technical Advisor and Overall Coordinator, ILO/Japan Multi-Bilateral Programme, ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific Bangkok, Thailand), Ms Ingrid Christensen (Director, International Labour Organisation-ILO Islamabad) Majeed Aziz (President Employers Federation of Pakistan), Dr Sohail Shahzad (Additional Secretary Labour and Human Resource Department, Govt of Punjab), representatives of government departments, trade bodies, corporate sector, women entrepreneurs, civil society organisations, students, women workers, community influential, media and players attended the event.

Prof Arshad Mehmood Mirza, President Baidarie Sialkot, hoped the initiative would pave the way for revitalisation of the passion for sports in our youth. Dr Muhammad Suhail Shahzad, Additional Secretary, Labour and Human Resource Department Punajb, said that a healthy brain fosters in healthy body.

Sports build a person's character and body both so every effort should be made to promote culture of playing healthy games. Muhammad Jahangir, Associate Secretary General, Pakistan Olympic Association, said that Olympic games were the best example of successful efforts to build a better world through sports.

Majeed Aziz, President Employers' Federation of Pakistan, said that the programme for promotion of sports should be continued perpetually. Ijaz A Khokhar, Central Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers Exporter Association (PRGMEA), stated that there was shortage of playgrounds in Sialkot region.

Even the educational institutions do not have such facilities available with them, he said adding that all stakeholders must work together for promoting culture of games in our country. Director Ms Ingrid Christensen said that the ILO would continue its contribution to create more and better jobs through improvement of labour practices.

Mr Sho SUDO, Chief Technical Advisor and Overall Coordinator, ILO/Japan Multi-Bilateral Programme, ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific Bangkok, Thailand, said that they were working on different development projects, especially on improvement of working conditions of works in industries.

We were working on the structure of industries to make them compatible with the best conditions in accordance with the international labor standards. Mr Shinichi HONDA, First Secretary, Deputy Head, Economic & Development Section, Embassy of Japan in Islamabad, said that 70 per cent of schools, colleges and universities in Japan have several facilities for promotion of sports.

And all these sports activities begin at very early age of student and this is a good sign and we want to globalize it too internationally. It needs potential to achieve that because we have world class sports manufacturing and Japan will contribute in the promotion in Pakistan. He said: "I am the donor of this project and today I have come here also for this."
