Colorful Festival Of Diwali Celebrated In Islamabad

A colorful evening with members of Hindu community and parliamentarians celebrated the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali here late Wednesday at residence of MNA, Dr. Ramesh Kumar.
Chairman Senate, Sadiq Sanjrani , Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Senator Azam Swatti, MNA, Noor Alam and other parliamentarians, diplomats and participants from general public attended the event that included exchange of greetings in a traditional way and worship of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, Ma Kali, Lord Chitragupta and Govardhan Parvat.
Followed by a musical night, the ceremony started with traditional fireworks besides cake cutting as part of the rituals of Diwali festival.
Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil, and the spreading of the light of learning. It falls on the day of 'Amavasyaa', when the moon does not rise and there is darkness all around. Light, being symbol of hope and positive energy, indicates the victory of good over evil.
Speaker National Assembly and Chairman Senate on the occasion felicitated all Hindu community saying that government stands committed to ensure equal rights for all minority communities as enshrined in Constitution of Pakistan and UN Declaration of Human Rights.
They said the festivals of minorities are celebrated officially by the government throughout the year to follow the true ethical values and promote interfaith harmony.
The local singers on the occasion mesmerized the audience with their melodious tunes and popular songs, whereas, Dr. Ramesh Kumar, also enthralled the audience by singing few popular songs.
Dr Ramesh Kumar while giving message of the Diwali said, "This festival brings peace, prosperity, progress and happiness to all sections of the society and promotes goodwill among all communities.
He further said, "The festival of lights will dispel darkness and gloom and bring joy, happiness and prosperity to the people of our country", adding that the festival signified the victory of good over evil and strengthened our resolve to follow true ethical values in our lives. May the noble ideals of the festival usher in peace, prosperity and happiness in our lives."He said it is a festival in which all communities rejoice in amity and friendship and celebrate the solidarity of the nation. He reiterated the commitment to respect and uphold the UN resolution calling for interfaith harmony and the pledges made by the government to safeguard the rights of all minorities.
