Commissioner Hyderabad Division, Abbass Baloch here on Thursday said some development projects are being subjected to inordinate delay due to incapacity of few departments.
He expressed these views while visiting the under construction flyover bridge at Kotri railway crossing, which is being built at the cost of Rs1.27 billion, in Jamshoro.
"Such delays not only create problems for the people but also results in increasing cost of the project due to rising cost of the construction materials," he observed.
The Commissioner said such procrastination would not be tolerated and warned that those who found responsible for the delay would be made to pay the project's additional cost.
Superintending Engineer of Works and Services department, Ghulam Shabbir Memon briefed the Commissioner that the flyover project was approved in April, 2015, to address the problem of traffic congestion at the railway crossing.
Qalandar Bux Abro was given contract of the project whose work began on Aug 22, 2016, he added.Memon said the 1.35 kilometer long bridge was scheduled to be completed by June, 2017, but several obstacles had delayed the project completion.
According to him, the railway crossing, electricity poles, underground gas and water supply lines as well as encroachments were among those obstacles which consumed long time before they could be addressed.Memon said the project was now almost complete and the flyover would soon be opened for the traffic.
The Commissioner directed the officials and contractor to maintain quality of work while trying to complete the remaining work in least possible time.
Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro, Capt (rtd) Fariddudin Mustafa and other officials accompanied the Commissioner.
