Commissioner Orders GIS Based Forests Map Of Multan Division

Commissioner Imran Sikandar Baloch directed the forests department to prepare Geographic Information System (GIS) based on map of green core Multan division for better monitoring to safeguarding forests and improve them further.
Commissioner Multan division took briefing from forests department, Excise and Taxation, Social Welfare and Environment Protection Department (EPD) at an official meeting here Tuesday and issued orders to bring improvement in performances.
He directed forest officials to retrieve occupied land from land grabbers on priority.
Conservator forests Khizar Hayat Minhas said that the department has got 34 acre land vacated from land grabbers and planted 1,71,648 saplings during 100 days.
He said that more saplings were being planted and their record was being maintained properly.
Commissioner observed that proper care for nurturing plants was more important than just planting saplings and directed officials to continue to move ahead in line with Clean and Green Pakistan initiative.
Director Environment Protection Department Zafar Iqbal said that FIRs have been got registered against 74 brick kilns and 68 industrial units on charges of polluting air.
He said that air quality index was being monitored closely and continuously and it was heartening to note that it was gradually falling down since the day it had touched 74 degrees mark on air quality monitor.
Director social welfare Rana Javed said that summary regarding upgradation of Sanat Zaar has been approved while a 100 bed new Darul Amaan building was also under construction to provide shelter to more destitute and aggrieved women.
He requested the commissioner for support to get resolved administrative and financial problems of Violence Against Women Centre (VAWC) in Multan.
Commissioner also ordered E&T department to improve tax recovery and launch crackdown against vehicles without token fee payment, and tempered or fake number plates.
He ordered EPD officials to take stricter action against those polluting the air by burning trash and remains of crops.
