ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 19th March, 2019) Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Muzammil Hussain on Tuesday briefed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Water Resources about power distribution mechanism and new plans to streamline the existing system.During the briefing, chairman Wapda said that neither the country had enough money nor the system was up-to-the-mark.

He said it took 26 months to get a PC-1 approved for a project.Hussain said Wapda added 2487 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. He said the Tarbela-4 expansion project had been completed, adding it would provide 1410 megawatt power to the national grid.

The project will also save Rs 35 billion of the government, he added.

He told the committee Rs 86 billion will be saved overall, after completion of different power projects. It may be noted here that an accountability court on Monday had issued arrest warrants for former chairman Wapda, Tariq Hameed, in a rental power reference. The court also ordered the ex-Wapda chief to appear before the court on April 3 along with surety bonds.

The court issued warrants for Tariq Hameed after he skipped a few court hearings and didn't respond to court summons. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in March 2018 had filed reference against ex-chairman Wapda, Tariq Hammed, and others in the Accountability Court, Islamabad. NNI
